How to Draw a Leaf Step by Step

Draw the main stem
Start learning how to draw a leaf by making a long, gently curved line right in the middle of your paper. This is the main stem. Save a little bit of extra room at the very bottom so your leaf has a nice base to hold onto!
Tip: Press lightly with your pencil so you can easily erase later!

Outline the left side
Now, start from the very top tip of your stem line. Draw a big, smooth curve that bows outwards and then comes back in to touch the bottom part of the stem. This creates the left half of your leaf's body in a really easy way.
Tip: Imagine you are drawing half of a big teardrop shape!

Outline the right side
We need to finish the main shape! Start at the very top tip again. Draw another big, smooth curve on the right side, bringing it down to meet the exact same spot at the bottom. Your drawing should look nicely balanced and even now.
Tip: It is perfectly fine if both sides are not exactly the same!

Add the side veins
Let's give our leaf some nice details. Draw three or four short, diagonal lines coming out from the main middle stem. Slant them gently pointing upwards towards the outside edges of your leaf. Do this exactly the same on both the left and right sides.
Tip: Space the lines out evenly from top to bottom.

Draw tiny edge points
To make it extra fun, you can add tiny zigzags or small bumps all around the smooth outside line we drew earlier. Just follow the shape you already made! This gives your leaf some fun texture and character before we add bright beautiful color.
Tip: Take your time and make small, careful strokes along the edge.

Add simple color
Now it is time to finish up! Grab your favorite bright green crayon or marker and fill in the entire shape. You can make the stem a slightly darker green or even brown to make it pop. Great job finishing your beautiful new art project!
