How to Draw Anime Eyes Step by Step

Draw the top lashes
Start by drawing two thick, curved lines side by side to make the upper eyelashes. Make them arch upward in the middle and slope down on the sides. Leave a good amount of space between them. Learning how to draw anime eyes starts with this strong top edge!
Tip: Press a little harder with your pencil to make these lines nice and bold.

Add the bottom lines
Right underneath each upper lash line, draw a much smaller, thinner curve. These will be the bottom edges of your eyes. Keep them short and leave a wide, open space between the top and bottom lines so the eyes look nice and big.
Tip: The bottom lines should be much thinner than the top lines.

Outline the irises
Now, draw a large tall oval stretching from the top lash line down to the bottom lash line. Do this for both sides to form the main part of the eyes, called the iris. Make sure the tops of the ovals touch the thick upper lashes.
Tip: Big ovals make the eyes look very friendly and expressive.

Draw the inner pupils
Inside the large ovals you just made, draw a smaller, taller oval right in the center of each. These are the pupils. They will eventually be colored in dark, but for now, just draw the outlines so you know exactly where they go.
Tip: Try to make both pupils the exact same size.

Add light reflections
To give your drawing that famous sparkle, draw two tiny circles inside each iris. Place one medium circle near the top left and a smaller one near the bottom right. These light reflections will stay completely white to make the eyes look shiny and alive.
Tip: You can overlap these little circles with the pupil lines!

Draw the eyelid folds
Just above the thick top eyelash lines, draw a very thin, short curved line. This simple detail creates the crease of the upper eyelid. It helps give the eyes depth and makes them stand out even more on the face.
Tip: Keep this line very light and gentle compared to the eyelashes.

Add small eyelashes

Add simple color
